He had the perfect mixture: natural talent, an incredible work ethic, and such a level of enthusiasm for performing. He additionally had two near-perfect snare drum solos (a 99 and a 98), and has performed Level 4 and 5 Marimba solos.īand Director Rob Allen is extremely proud, but not surprised, of Quinn’s accomplishment: “When I saw Quinn as a 6 th grader, I knew then and there he was a strong candidate to make Conference All State. In Quinn’s case, he not only had a perfect score on his timpani solo his Junior year, he also had a perfect score on his sophomore year solo. Selection into the All State program is notoriously difficult: students must perform the highest level (level 6) NYSSMA Solo during the prior school year, and typically need a perfect 100 score to be considered. In just a couple of months, Quinn will be traveling out to Rochester to play Timpani with the All State Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of University of Illinois professor Donald Schleicher. Hoosick Falls Central School (HFCS) senior Quinn Kinney has received the highest honor available for school musicians: selection into the prestigious All State program.
